BCT Summer Camp registration is happening now!

We've got July all planned out for many wonderfully wacky outdoor theatrical experiences for campers ages 7-15. A delightful thing about BCT is the friendships that are fostered between age groups (we like to call it "Big Sister/Big Brother"), and we have proof that those friendships last all the way through college and beyond.

Here's what we've got planned for summer:

JULY 8-12: RANDOM ACTS & SNEAKY SET-UPS. Last year we had two dozen kids flash-mobbing, creating "celebrities" out of the average Bellinghamster, and singing to riders on the city bus. It's fun-filled mischief that brings out the playfulness in everyone.

JULY 15-19: THE WUTCRAKER BOOT-CAMP. In preparation for The Wutcraker in December, campers get a jump on auditions for this community-wide intergenerational parody (winner of the Mayor's Arts Award). Campers will learn how to swordfight like the Rat King, rap like the Ice Gang, and dance like a Booger Flung Scary!

JULY 22-26: "SPRINKLE PARK—THE MUSICAL." Campers meet at Fairhaven Park this week with swimming suits, picnics, and imagination. We'll play tons of fun theatre games and create an original musical or a lip-sync performance to share on Friday with families in the park. Wet. Wacky. Fun!

JULY 29-August 2: THE WOZARD OF IZ. Of course you've heard of Toto... but have you heard of Dorothy's dog "Thumb Thumb?" And what about Auntie "Um," and "Professor Lost His Marbles?" And Elvis! What is Elvis doing in Oz?? A hilarious rendition on that old classic, kids' imaginations have warped this adventure into a new dimension. Parts for Middle School kids and younger.

HOW TO REGISTER: It's an old-fashioned approach, but it's indicative of the hands-on care BCT's summer camp offers your camper—simply do this:
1) click “Contact Us” and send us an email with your name and the name of your camper(s), how old they are, and what camp(s) they’re interested in attending.
2) We will send you a registration and medical release form to fill out. Please fill it out and mail it along with a check for tuition (made out to B.C.T.) to our MAILING ADDRESS: 809 Donovan Ave. Bellingham, WA 98225
3) We will send you a confirmation email
4) In early June, we will send out another email with camp details and potential car-pooling possibilities to all the families who have signed up for summer camp.

It's easy!

What some people are saying about BCT:

As a parent and a PTA representative, I have come to appreciate Drue and the Bellingham Children’s Theatre for many reasons.  Drue engages a child’s entire imagination — from writing an original script that is custom-made for each group of children, to creating the set, to procuring costumes. At BCT, each and every child gets a significant role, and no one waits in the wings for their turn. BCT kids are active! My naturally dramatic daughter has developed real acting skills and an appreciation for theatre to go along with her confidence and desire to perform.  She has found her passion and we have found a teacher who can help that passion grow and blossom. As a PTA representative, I have been the parent liaison between BCT’s afterschool drama program and the school. Drue is incredibly responsible, both to her commitments and for her students. She practices and teaches creativity, inclusivity, goofiness, acting skills, set construction, and responsibility to the team. I could not have found a more approachable, fun, professional person to teach my child or to work with. - Veronica Douglas, Parent and PTA president Wade King Elementary School, IB.

When BCT’s troupe of GIRLS INC performed their original show to our all-girls assembly, magic happened. Not only did the girls perform beautifully, they were also quite articulate as they shared their wisdom about such tough topics as bullying, eating habits, relationships, and self-esteem. Bellingham Children’s Theatre’s GIRLS INC. should  be toured to every middle school in this county. - Tracy Sjostrom- Martinez, Former Vice-Principal, Shuksan Middle School

Drue is a treasure to this community! She creates magic, wonderment, and has one of the most prolific imaginations I’ve ever had the privilege to witness. I feel honored to be a part of BCT! Former Bellingham Mayor, Mark Asmundson

Oh my! I will never forget my time as an actor with Bellingham Children’s Theatre! So delightful. And Drue? She’s a wonderful director. - Noemi Ban, retired educator and special national speaker

BCT changed my life forever! I was a shy kid who was not chosen when Missoula Children’s Theatre came to my school. BCT came a year later and Drue included me in her cast. I made a full circle: I went from Auntie Um in BCT’s Wozard of Iz to receiving a BFA in Theatre from Cornish. Now, I teach for BCT, and continue to act in Drue’s Viewpoints Theatre Ensemble. – Angela Mills-Watson (involved in BCT since 1995)

BCT is like… my other family!Flynn Larson (age eight)

Many graduates of Bellingham Children’s Theatre have gone on to receive MFA’s from various graduate programs and conservatories around the country, as well as pursue professional acting careers in New York, L.A., Chicago, and Seattle.

We wish them continued success!
